SGRE is launching the new 4.2 MW geared turbine SG 4.2-145, as part of the new geared turbine platform Siemens Gamesa 4.X. The SG 4.2-145 is designed for onshore medium wind sites in the 4 MW segment, and is described as marking the start of a next-generation product platform for high performance geared onshore wind turbines.

SGRE has also launched a new 8 MW direct drive offshore SG 8.0-167 DD wind turbine, with a rotor diameter of 167m. Its B82 blades allow for an 18 per cent greater swept area, and up to 20 per cent higher annual energy production that its predecessor, the SWT-7.0-154.

Both product launches are part of SGRE’s new “One Segment/One Technology” philosophy. By 2020, the company plans to have one technology per business segment. In onshore wind applications, SGRE will focus on geared solutions, and direct-drive platforms for offshore applications.
